EA Toner Technology | The Story

The development of EA (Emulsion Aggregation) Toner has been hailed as a breakthrough technology that has narrowed the gap between colour and monochrome printing costs. With EA Technology in development for more than eight years, it’s now been incorporated into a range of Xerox colour products worldwide.

When the toner was first introduced in 2001, John Shane, then director at CAP Ventures, a strategic consulting firm said: "Companies focused on bringing colour office and production digital printing products to market see chemically produced toner as the next wave in colour toner technology.

"Vendors who want to be serious players in colour digital printing will have to master this technology and offer its benefits to customers if they wish to be competitive well into the future."

EA Toner is a unique, environmentally friendly technology that allows customers to print in colour more accurately and affordably. When using this new technology you have the ability to control the size, shape, and structure of the particles, leading to improved print quality, less toner usage, less toner waste and lower energy usage.

Benefits

• The manufacturing process of this toner requires approximately 25% less energy per pound of toner
• It generates less waste compared to the conventional method of manufacturing toner
• To produce 1000 prints, 100grams of conventional toner is required, whereas only 50-60grams of EA Toner is needed
• EA technology conserves resources as it eliminates fuser oil

Xerox first introduced this new technology in 2002 in its DocuColor 1632/2240 and Fuji Xerox colour copier/printers. In 2006 other Xerox products using EA include the Xerox CopyCentre C2128/C2636/C3545 copiers and the WorkCentre Pro 2128/2636/3545 multifunction systems. Since EA Toner technology has proven its effectiveness both commercially and environmentally, EA technology will be rolled out in many other products in the future.
